Android real-time multiplayer game, what is the best protocol / communication?

I want to develop a multiplayer game for Android in real time. But I still confuse what is the best way to communicate. I found several options:

  • TCP
  • UDP
  • Ajax / Comet / Messaging, i.e. pubnub.com, beaconpush.com
  • Push notification
  • Xmpp
  • Android Cloud To Device Messaging
  • Pubsubhubub Protocol
  • SmartFoxServer

I'm just wondering how other real-time games did this. I would like to know the most common way to do this with an acceptable result.
