How to get the public IP address of a mobile phone?

I want to connect my phone to the server using the Internet using the server's IP address. The mobile phone’s IP address is usually private as far as I know. For the app to work, I need the public IP address of my phone. How to achieve this?

You will have to wait for IPv6;) Now you get the private address, and the service provider performs address translation (NAT): the router has one common IP address and uses ports to map incoming messages to the IP addresses of the private network.

surprisingly, the t-mobile 3g service seems to assign a public IP address. I am still learning the details, but I saw an internet accessible website running on a tethered laptop.

You should get your i / p address. Open your browser and enter http://whatismyipaddress.com/ or wait while you have it. You will have to wait for IPv6
