Oracle: What is "(+) ="?

Question

Currently, I don’t have access to Oracle books, and my Internet searches do not return literally any results ((+) doesn’t show anything on Google). I am looking at existing code to add some fields to the query and saw:

AND lookup.LookupID (+) = AuditID

However, I have no idea what this does. Any help would be appreciated.

This is an Oracle way to specify an outer join (ANSI path will be a RIGHT JOIN / LEFT JOIN)
