Need a tutorial for DotNetOpenAuth

I am creating a C # Winforms application that will allow me to edit my Gmail contacts. I am very new to HTTP and security, so naturally I completely lost the DotNetOpenAuth samples and documentation. I really wanted to read a tutorial that describes how to use DotNetOpenAuth to get Gmail contacts.

Is there such a textbook? I see that the samples have a GoogleConsumer object, but I'm not quite sure what “consumer” means in this context. All I know about OAuth is that it allows one website to redirect to another (e.g. Google) login and allow access to the original website. Since I am doing this in a Winform application, I am not sure how this translates.

In principle, all this ignorance depresses me, and I try not to burn out. Does anyone know a tutorial that I can read to describe how to use DotNetOpenAuth to access GMail contacts? Again, I don't think the samples will help me, since they seem to be using ASP.NET, and there is no real sense of “here is step 1, then step 2, etc.”.

Check out the OAuthConsumerWpf sample. It has a tab that demonstrates an OAuth user who downloads Gmail contacts.
