Augmented Reality - Use Only GPS

I plan to make an AR application that will use GPS technology to get the location, and then use a compass / gyroscope to track the movements of the 6DOF viewfinder. This is a personal project for my own development, but I am looking for starting places as a new field for me, so this may be an open-ended question with more than one correct answer. Using GPS, I hope to simply develop for my first AR application due to its accuracy.

The idea behind this AR is not to use any kind of vision processing (relying solely on GPS) and display 3d models on the screen at approximately the correct distances (up to the point) that the user is standing from. It seems that simple games work in the 3D world in terms and locations of faces / objects / models, etc., to draw. My target platform will be mobile devices and tablets that can run one of these WM6, Phone7, or Android OSs.

Most of the applications that I have seen use markers and use the AR-ToolKit or ARTag, and those that use GPS usually display the point or flat box of interest on the screen to indicate it in the right place.

I have done very limited work with 3D-graphic programming, but are there any libraries that you think can make me start with this, and not build everything from the bottom up. Ignoring the low GPS accuracy (with respect to AR), I will have a certain point in three-dimensional space (constantly moving due to a GPS fix), and then a certain point where a 3D model will be displayed in the same 3D space.

I saw several sample applications that are similar, but nothing that I can expand, so anyone can suggest places to start using libraries that might be suitable for my project.
