Display Icons for PDF Files

I am working on a Drupal site with some PDF files, where I open the PDF file in a new window. Files are opened in the browser using the Acrobat Reader plugin, but the icon does not appear. What needs to be done to show the badge?

If you show the PDF file in iframe, the browser should show an icon for the entire site, but you are out of luck in external applications. Acrobat Reader does not use favicons.

UPDATE This is now possible by placing favicon.ico in the root directory of your site according to @ s1m0n1stv4n answer below
