How to check file in git?

Ok, so I just started using github.com, and my friend and I are working on this project. How can I pull parts of a project, but check for specific files that I'm working on, so it doesn't work on them. He can still upload files, but he will not be able to open or edit them until I upload them and give permission.

I am new to git, so for me only the main material makes sense. Thank you

If you really want to work this way (i.e.: lock files, or at least control when your friend changes your repo), you can ask your friend to fork your repo .

So he / she:

  • will have its own copy of the specified repo
  • will work in any file
  • first it will reboot with branches received from your repo (added as remote on his / her fork, as described in GitHub: working with remote devices )
  • will make a request to decide what to include and when.
