I plan to create a giant control system in Flex 4.0, and I just wanted to know what pros and cons are using 4.0 (or 4.2) over 3.5? Lightweight components? Faster pipelines? What can I expect from using Flex 4.0?

The biggest change when using Flex 4 (and above) is the implementation of the Spark architecture. Spark offers a new set of components that simplifies skin design and components. Spark Architecture also offers integration with other Adobe tools such as Flash Catalyst.
