Is there any way of least resistance that a newbie in adopting graphics technology can accept at this point in the .NET graphics world?

Over the past 5 months, I spent time learning C # with a book by Andrew Troelsen and getting to know things on the .NET 4 stack ... a bit of ADO.NET, EF4 and a pinch of WCF to taste.

I really like the development of graphics (not for games), so I decided to go the .NET path when I decided to choose from Java or .NET to find out ... since I heard about WPF and saw some screenshots and that’s all. I even almost finished work with 4 sections of WPF in the Troelsen book.

Now I suddenly saw a forum post about how "WPF was dead" in the face of something called Silverlight. I searched more and saw all the confusion now ... even things like "Silverlight too dead!" wrt HTML5.

From what I collect, we are in a delicate period of time that will ultimately decide which technology is stabilizing, right?

However, as someone who has moved into the development of the user interface and graphics through .NET, I would like to receive some recommendations from people of more experienced people. Maybe I read too much? Maybe I missed some information? Maybe there is a way that minimizes blood tears?

In any case, here is a sample of the vomiting of my thoughts that I would appreciate some clarification or guarantee or spanking:

I recommend the book "WPF 4 Unleashed" by Adam Nathan. http://www.amazon.com/WPF-4-Unleashed-Adam-Nathan/dp/0672331195 He will teach you everything you need to get started with WPF (and Siverlight based on WPF).

Yes, Silverlight can do both desktop and web environments equally well, and this is your best choice right now. Regarding 3D design, you can explore XNA. It is quite easy to use.
