Rule of thumb when partition tables

I saw a lot of entries about partition tables, but not much information about when you should make a partition.

Is there a rule when you should share tables in SQL Server.

My tests show that this depends on the loading of the request.

  • If the queries you execute ALWAYS contain a filter in the section field, then the performance advantage is almost instantaneous (for example, 1000 entries in the table are already useful).
  • If the requests do not always contain a filter in the section field, you really need to make a comparison with a good sample of loading the request before making a decision.
