Psyco alternative for 64-bit machines

Psyco is amazing when it works . However, without switching to the 32-bit version of Python, it seems that in the near future we will get the 64-bit version. Are there any psyco alternatives that can speed up the general python code related to the CPU?

The answer is to use PyPy instead . From http://psyco.sourceforge.net/introduction.html :

My plans for 2006 are to transfer the methods implemented in Psyco to PyPy.

PyPy :

... pypy:
* Python , CPython Psyco
* PyPy PyPy (200 KLocs)
* x86 32 64 ARM
