I am not an expert programmer, but I am trying to change the way some technical indicators are displayed in the TradeStation financial charting package (not that the particular chart provider matters).
Here's the problem: most indicators are built around the zero point, sometimes they fluctuate close to this point, and sometimes far away. I would like to change the way the indicators are built so that they oscillate around zero much more. But here is the hard part, I do not want to distort their shape too much; some changes are beautiful and inevitable, but I would still like the indicators to be recognizable for what they were originally.
In the past I tried many ways, one of the methods used a logarithmic type scale, but it was not successful, because it made any fluctuations that were very large, almost insignificant, which is not the goal. The goal is to try to keep any fluctuation of the indicator almost the same, but to change its placement so that it approaches zero (in the center). Or in another way; the goal is to make the indicators perform similar fluctuations, but the center of these oscillations should be closer to zero (center of the indicator scale).
Does anyone know or can think of how this can be done? Are there any algorithms that could help any price range to oscillate more around a central point without unduly distorting the original?
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
