Auto-increment Registration Number for Team Foundation

Question

I would like all project files to automatically increment the version number when checking for changes. Is there a way to configure TFS to automatically increase upon registration, or at least run a script in a project that is for me?

I understand that in standard practice assemblies usually increase the version number, but this does not make much sense to me, since you may have 2 subsequent assemblies, which may have no differences at all, but the versions will be different.
