The mechanism does not work to automate the login to Gmail in Google Appengine

I used the mechanism and deployed the application to GAE and it works great. But for the application that I am doing, I am trying to automate the login to gmail using mechanization. It does not work in the development environment on the local machine, and also after deployment in appengine.

I managed to use the same script to run it on my server via mod_python using PSP.

I found a lot of solutions here, but none of them seem to work for me. Here is a snippet of my code:

When I look at the result, all I get is the login page when used with appengine. But with mod_python hosted on my own server, I get a page with the user's mailbox.
