HG - why does this cause my system to stop responding

I use HG, mercurial, to backup some binary and text files (about 12G). I click on the remote repository and my system stops responding (mouse and keyboard do nothing).

The processor is busy, but not flat, and I also have about 1.5 GB of free memory.

What makes my system suffocate? This is the first time I've ever put content in a repository, so there should be about 3.5 GB of data to transfer (how much space is used by HG).

Try running Process Monitor to get a log of what HG is trying to do while your computer is hanging.
