Change / change application icon at runtime

Question

I want to change the application icon when a button is clicked or when the application is in a certain state (for example, updating data). But I can’t find a way to do this.

For example, the Steam icon, which when the update downloads or uploads data, has a dot bar added to the normal Steam icon.

I searched, but cannot find a way to go.

Is it possible to completely change the icon at runtime? Do you mean that we have such a square as an icon, and pressing a button that becomes such a circle?
