IPhone: how to convert a photo to a pencil drawing

I was wondering what the steps would be to convert a photo into a pencil drawing. People usually offer:

  • invert image (make negative)
  • apply gaussian blur
  • mix the above images with linear deviation or color deviation.

See here: Convert image to pencil sketch

Are there other methods? I was particularly interested in methods that emphasize a pencil stroke, like this iPhone app: Snap and Sketch

I would really appreciate any suggestions on how to get started.

I think you will have to iterate over all the pixels in the image and implement the algorithm that you mentioned in the question itself. There is no default image filter library on iphone (CoreImage exists, but only for Mac). I think your options

  • A third library called imageMagic is, and these people seem to have ported it to iphone. To think something over.
  • Another simple image filtering library (especially for iphone) does some basic image filtering. Gaussian blur is one of them.
  • image.. iphone. . , .

EDIT: Core Image iphone. . -
