The Android keyboard hides itself, showing an empty space at the bottom, after returning from the splash screen

Question

I am working on an Android application and really enjoy it. But today I am stuck in a small problem with a soft keyboard.

I have an editText at the bottom of the screen, and when the user clicks on it, the keyboard pops up, resizing the entire view to show the editText above the keyboard, as it should be. But if the user does nothing for a while, the phone is asleep and the screen is locked by the keyboard still present on the screen. When the phone returns after sleep, the keyboard seems to be hiding, leaving my eyes in an altered state. Empty space is displayed where the keyboard is present. I would be happy if

• The keyboard remains there after returning from sleep.
• Hide the keyboard, but my views should return to the original size, i.e. without spaces..

What can I do to achieve any of them? Hope my question is clear. Any help is appreciated.
