CodeIgniter - Editing the output buffer before sending it to the browser?

I am learning the PHP CodeIgniter framework . I need help editing the output before it is cleared by the user.

Usually in PHP you can just use ob_start();and then ob_get_clean();to extract the content.

However, reading the CodeIgniter documentation, they say that all output is already buffered.

Does anyone experience an inadvertent start to the second ob_start()? Alternatively, can anyone talk about buffering the output of CodeIgniter so that I can edit it?
