Is it important that the page is up to standard, even if it works fine?

I have an html page with more than one head and body. The first organ says “load” in front of the rest of the head using javascript and other loads. Then javascript deletes the first object before showing the entire document.

My friend told me that this is not up to standard. But the page works fine in Internet Explorer and in Firefox.

Is it really important to adhere to standards if the page is working properly?

~~ edit ~~

Thanks for all the help, I will make it standard as suggested.

More often than not, if I come up with a solution that is not a standard addition, my solution is almost always difficult to understand for others, buggies and based on my limited knowledge of web development. Then, in shame, but with hope, I will refuse my decision and continue the search for the best.
