The best IDE for editing and saving code directly on the server

Ok, I am using Aptana Studio 3 for my IDE. This was great because I could view files directly from the server, edit and save them directly on the server. This meant that I did not need to download files to a computer.

Then I was reset by a terrible CMS job that runs on a Windows Server that Aptana does not connect via ftp ( see error here ). I need an alternative IDE very quickly to make progress on this project!

Can anyone help? Either I need a fix for this Aptana Bug, or I chose an alternative IDE that will meet the same criteria ...

It seems that in your case the online IDE may work - I think they will sort all types of random connections. I would recommend ShiftEdit , but you can take a look at the answers in Is there an online PHP IDE? , also.

I used this only for server-side JavaScript coding of node.js and it worked fine for me. Take a look at cloud9 . (You will need to have node.js running on the server.)

Edit: The site is a bit misleading. There is a way to run this on your own server.
