How to add a custom data source to WMS GeoServer?

Question

I install GeoServer as a WMS server to interact with OpenLayers.

The problem is that I have to use a third-party tile source that is provided through the web service. Therefore, I assume that I need to configure GeoServer to retrieve an image from a third-party server site and respond to an OpenLayers request.

Is this idea correct? What to do to accomplish this?

Any suggestion would be appreciated.
