What is C # 5 and where did it come from?

I know that C # 3.5 is used with VS2008 and .NET 3.5.
Also C # 4 is part of VS2010 and .Net 4.0.
But what is C # 5? What is an IDE?

In a recent PDC, Anders announced:

  • We plan to release the product "C # 5" and the product "VB 11". The exact names of the products have not yet been announced, as far as I know.
  • We assume that the "big ticket" function in C # 5 and VB 11 will be improved by asynchronous programming.
  • A prototype version of async is available for public download.
  • In the future, we plan to release the compiler as a service API for C # and VB. You should not expect it to be sent concurrently with C # 5 / VB 11; they are separate products.

Anders did not specifically declare:

  • When we plan to ship any of these products
  • What "ship" they will leave; We have not announced a new version of the IDE or CLR.
  • What additional features, if any, will be added in C # 5 or VB 11.

For more information about asynchronous functions in C #, see the C # Developer Center or read Async articles on this subject.

It is not yet released. Parts of this were presented this year by the PDC (Professional Developer Conference) . You can see Anders Halesberg online , where he explains the new async features that will fall into C # 5.0 when it is released (no dates yet)

I heard in an ad that C # 5 is coming from Microsoft in Beijing.

  • Asynchronous methods
  • Compiler as a Service

At the moment I can not find information about .NET 5 or in which the IDE will be released.

Further information can be found on the MSDN forums.

In case people still follow this question. It seems that the next version of the framework version will be 4.5, and the next version of VS will be 11. I'm not sure why this is not 2011, probably because it is 2012, and it is still in the technology preview.

What's New for Visual C # in Visual Studio 11 Developer Preview. This pre-release will end on June 30, 2012.
