Xcode 4: opening arbitrary files in the editor assistant

Is it possible to open a file that is not part of any project in the editor’s assistant? Open Quickly can open files in the assistant, but only searches for the project itself. If I open an external file in Xcode, it gets a new window that cannot access the project in its helpers.

With the assistant editor open, drag and drop the file from the left list into the Jumplist at the top of the assistant editor (where the open file is located).

You can drag an arbitrary file into the editor assistant. Then it will be open there.
