By installing foobar.com and www.foobar.com to point to my site hosted on Amazon S3

I have a site hosted on Amazon S3; The url is similar to www.foobar.com.s3-website-us-east-1.amazonaws.com. I would like my domain registrar (NameCheap) to redirect both foobar.comto and www.foobar.comto this site. Record setup

www.foobar.com CNAME www.foobar.com.s3-website-us-east-1.amazonaws.com.

works great for a subdomain www. However, I cannot determine how to configure the subdomain version of the site. I tried

foobar.com CNAME www.foobar.com.s3-website-us-east-1.amazonaws.com.

but it does not work. (And did I read somewhere that CNAMEs arent supposed to be used this way?) I know that the S3 byte name should be identical to the fully qualified DNS name, but does this really mean that I need to reflect the contents of my web site in two different buckets? I feel that there must be a better solution than this.

Thank!
