What is the recommended groovy plugin for Emacs?

When looking for a simple groovy mode plugin for emacs to get padding and some syntax highlighting, I found version 3 on the groovy website .

This page is great for giving an overview, and some in the details of the weed, however a little meager in why choose one over the other.

There is Jeremy Rainer groovy-mode.el that is not painful

There is a Russel Winder named groovy -mode.el , which is based on cc mode.

There Stuart Clayman inferioir groovy mode inf- groovy.el

I am currently looking at the Jeremy plugin, but I feel that being not painful is a bad reason to choose one of them.

I would like to know which ones are recommended or which ones should be avoided?

I use Jeremy Ranyer groovy-mode.elfor the reason that it worked better with my code, and then with the version of Russel Winder, while I was testing them.

Here is a small modification that I added to Reiner that fixes some problems (the elvis operator, if I remember correctly):

(defconst groovy-block-mid-re
   "need something here or it blows up"
   )

Things have changed a bit after ataylor's answer: now (March 2017) the official Groovy website for a link to Emacs-Groovy is a mode that brings together Russell Winder and Stuart Kleiman.

As expected, relaying
