Honeycomb action bar not showing (confused)

I am completely puzzled. I created an application with minSDK = 4 and targetSDK = 11. Compiled and launched on the Xoom tablet. I do not get the action bar and cannot understand what I did wrong. I look at the screen for hours and don’t know what I did, which would lead to the disappearance of the bar. Help! Any suggestions on why I don't see the action bar?

You need to declare android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Holo"for Activityin the manifest manifest.

The developer guide says that you only need to install the target version of the SDK, but it does not work.

I quote here : "If you use the support library APIs for the action bar, you should use (or override) Theme.AppCompat style family (and not Theme.Holo family, available at API level 11 and above)."

I used android:theme="@style/Theme.AppCompat"in my manifest and an action bar appeared.
