The template hierarchy works the same way in magento, as children's themes in Wordpress

I am new to magento and am confused by that. I bought a theme and installed it, and now I need to make some changes.

In wordpress ... (which I'm used to) what I would like to do at this point is to create a child theme (which is essentially a single css file with a tiny piece of code in it) .... and any changes to this the child theme will override the parent theme only in this area , while the parent theme will manage everything else, the advantage is that when it comes to updating the theme I dont need to save the “hack list” and repeat all my changes.

However, the people who sold me the topic do not mention anything like this and suggest simply editing the topic itself, despite the fact that magento has a "theme hierarchy"

So can someone explain this to me? Is the template hierarchy the same in magento, as children's themes are done in wordpress ... and if not what is the process for updating the theme with respect to saving the theme changes made by the site developer from the original downloaded version

The template hierarchy works the same in magento since child themes in Wordpress

No.

What is the procedure for updating the theme, taking into account the theme changes made by the site developer from the original downloaded version.
