Blog / CMS Integration in Heroku Rails Application

I looked at various options for integrating the blog into my Rails application hosted on Heroku. Nesta looks promising, but since it manages blog posts directly in Git, I would have a downtime for a couple of minutes every time I posted a post (due to compilation with Heroku slug).. It seems that I was mistaken in this matter.

Are there any options that meet all of the following requirements?

  • Compatible with Heroku read-only file system.
  • It can be integrated into an existing Rails 3 application.
  • It has a web interface, so I do not recompile every time I publish a publication.

I use Jekyll, Rack and Heroku to manage my blog. It worked out fine for me.

You can see the code here:

I will say that there is no downtime when updating a bullet in Heroku. The application does not restart until the completion of the whole process. And then a few seconds before ready.

You can try this. Press the new release on your slug hero and open many browser tabs on your blog. You will notice that the downtime is almost 0.

  • www.yourapp.com → Rails-.
  • blog.yourapp.com → Jekyll Sinatra Heroku.
