Get parent of TreeViewItem in HierarchicalDataTemplate in WPF

Question

I combine the two examples found on the Internet. One about stretched styles of choice and one about multi- selection in a tree structure .

Everything works for me, except for the indentation of the tree structure. I could give all my code, but that would not solve it.

My problem is the following method:

This method tries to get the depth of treeviewItem in the tree. The problem is that it is elem.Parentalways null. Which leads to a depth of 0.

I think this is happening because I use HierarchicalDataTemplate. Part of my haml looks like this.
