I have a collection of files representing the "project" (txt, cfg, manually edited binary file, scripts, etc.) that I would like to manage in the repository. I would like to place the repository and server (if necessary) on my home computer with Windows and have access to it remotely and locally.
I set up the VisualSVN server and the TortiseSVN client, and all this works fine except for one major hang; file timestamps. When I add a file to the repository, SVN erases the date of the last change and changes it to the date when it was committed.
I have date files that span the last 4 years, and keeping these timestamps is important to me. I searched, but could not find a solution to this problem (although it seems that many other people have requested the same behavior).
So my question is: is there a FREE VCS that allows me to keep the original file timestamps and does my other criteria for general use meet my requirements? I looked at GIT, but it did not seem to be, and I was not sure about CVS.
Thanks for any help
