How to manage huge trees on a standard PC?

Question

• For the root node, which should start creating a tree with approximately 10 ¹⁰ (ab. 2 ³⁴ ) nodes, is it advisable to use a memory that once will contain the whole tree?
• What problems associated with the operating system may occur (file I / O, huge file support)?
• Are C, gcc, and glibc some implicit restrictions (pointers)?
• Does Linux have any problems / limitations with large files?
