Maven parallel load dependencies in the same group

Question

We use the maven dependency plugin (with maven3) to unpack the runtime dependencies to run the test suite. However, since the number of dependencies and their size are large, it may take up to 30 minutes to complete the download (not all commands are on the local network). I checked with maven docs and maven only loads dependencies that belong to individual groups in parallel. Is there a way I can force maven, or perhaps a maven dependency plugin, to load these dependencies in parallel?
