How safe is javax.crypto.Cipher?

I know enough about cryptology to complicate the life of a novice programmer and laugh at security experts. Therefore, bearing in mind, I ask: how safe javax.crypto.Cipher? I understand that anyone can be hacked by someone with a will and a way, but I still would like to know the relative details.

The reason I'm asking is to keep the account names and passwords that will be sent through my class Cryptor, which will declare them, and would like to know if this will do the job. If anyone has literature that I could read, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks ~ Aedon
