Do different Android phones have different restrictions on the number of Bluetooth SPP devices that they can connect to?

I managed to connect to multiple SPP Bluetooth devices at the same time. But I can connect to a maximum of 3 bluetooth devices in the Samsung Galaxy S I9003 phone. And in my Galaxy S II, I can only connect to two devices at a time.

Are there different restrictions for different devices. As I understand it, the parallel connection limit is 7 for the Bluez base stack. Is there any way to overcome this limit?
