Sound engine with good memory management (iPhone / iPad)

I am looking for a simple sound engine without additional effects, but with good buffer memory management. At the very least, it should keep track of all playback sounds, unload unused sound buffers (but save everything for the time being), and adjust the gain for sound groups. An advantage would be support for input streams and compressed formats.

PS: FMOD and BASS are good engines, but too expensive for these low requirements.
