I am starting a new Openlayers project and trying a few examples. If I need to load 500 objects, is it better to load them as markers or vector points? These will be static elements on the map with a label and a pop-up window. Will there be a performance difference between the two in terms of pan / zoom / load, etc.? I know that markers can have certain restrictions on styles, etc., but so far I can achieve what I need to display with markers.
In Openlayers, I see that max. 500 markers are recommended, and only 100-200 functions (vector geometry points will fit this, I suppose) are recommended to improve pan / zoom performance. So I was under display markers, better in terms of performance. But everywhere the recommendation is to use Vectors in the latest version 2.11, it does not support Markers by default, but we will need to add the Markers file separately if we want to use them, which makes me wonder if it will be obsolete soon .
Thanks for any help, Aridbh.
