How to parse xmlwebservice in phonegap

I am new to the development of telephone conversations. I am making one platform independent mobile application using HTML5, CSS. I want to call an xml-based web service in a phone conversation application and want to parse this service. Please, any body offers me how this is possible with a simple example.
