Open link from PDF to IE

I have a hard time with PDF files open in IE. I need to make a link to a Word document file (.doc) from a PDF document in IE without IE moving from the PDF file after the link has been clicked. I found that the default behavior of IE is to close the PDF file, when you move from it, Firefox will simply open the link in a new tab and save the document in a separate tab. I need to find a fix that emulates firefox behavior that is not related to changing IE settings on the local machine.

To give another example of the functionality I'm looking for here, this is the equivalent of HTML:

<a href="some_pdf.pdf" target="_blank">Some PDF</a>

I need this "_blank" function in a PDF document.

In short, you must disable IE window reuse. These steps are as follows:

  • Open Internet Explorer
  • Click the button Toolslocated in the upper right corner of your browser window.
  • When the drop-down menu appears, select Internet Options
  • After opening the "Options" window, go to the tab Advanced
  • Find and make sure that the option is Reuse windows for launching shortcutsnot installed (it should be in the category Browsing)
  • Save and close Internet Optionsand restart the browser.
