Add pivot table to google spreadsheet via API

I would like to automatically create one of these pivot tables:

Given some data and parameters, the script will create a new google spreadsheet containing the pivot table and chart, non-interactively.

Is it possible?

There seems to be a partial answer. I have not tried it yet, and I will not swear it until I do. If someone tries this technique, write here.
