How to avoid overuse of design patterns?

I know that design patterns are a time-tested solution for a certain type of software problem.
But how do I know if I am abusing a design template?
How much is too much?
What things should be considered when using design patterns to avoid overuse?

The only possible way that I can think of is to get real control over the design before you even think about using it.
Before using a design template, you need to know what exactly this is for?
What are the advantages / disadvantages of using it?
Start with your own idea and see if design templates are suitable along the way.
You can even make small changes to the template if it makes your code better.
If you are a beginner, do not bother to make mistakes, because this is how we all learn. Design patterns are really large, but can make your code unnecessarily complex and cumbersome if not used wisely.

Hope this helps.
