Matlab `imagesc`: how to display with smooth color?

Question

I have a matrix that I am showing with imagesc. Now I will be asked to make an “interpolated” version (ie Display with smoother colors).

While I could calculate a large interpolated matrix, I seem to remember that there was a command to switch between two such display modes, either a small command in style axis equal, or some property - but I just can’t find it,

You can use and set properties pcolorinstead .imagescshadinginterp
