Deploying Qt with MinGW requires VC ++ distribution?

I am testing the application using Qt 4.7.3 compiled with MinGW on a clean XP virtual box. The application did not work, and after a lot of burning, I traced an error requiring the download of the redistributable Visual C ++ 2005. I downloaded this and it worked. Something here doesn’t seem right, don’t I need VC ++ libraries, since I use MinGW? Maybe this is a problem with my compilation? I should mention that I do not use qmake for assembly.

Dependence on MSVCRT.DLLis related to MinGW itself. To quote mingw.org ..

MinGW Open Source, MS-Windows - DLL C-Runtime. ( DLL, Microsoft, ; MSVCRT.DLL, Microsoft C.

.: msvcrt.dll ?
