How to delete a region using the [delete] key in emacs

I am using Emacs 23.3 for Mac OS X Lion. How can I delete a selected area of ​​text with a simple key input - something like deleteor C-d? This works on windows without installing anything specific. How can I implement this on Mac OS X Lion?

Give it a try M-x cua-mode. This will change many things about how Emacs behaves to match the behavior of other graphics applications. For more information, see M-S-: (info "(emacs) CUA Bindings").
