Difference between object_id and regular identifier

Question

I noticed that several fql tables have an object_id, as well as a regular identifier. For example, in the photo table there is both object_id and pid. What is the difference between the two?

Alternatively, you can add object_id in www.facebook.com/to use as a link to the actual image on facebook.
