Want to learn Linux porting on ARM platform

Question

I want to learn how to port various Linux variants on ARM boards. I was about to buy a TI Panda board or a Beagle board. I want to learn how to configure Linux source code, compile it and port on one of these boards.

I was just curious if there are other tips with good community support than TI that would be good for newbies.
