Installing the perl module: cpan vs rpm / deb shell

I'm just wondering - are there any advantages to installing perl modules from the cpan shell compared to installing them through package management? Besides sometimes quick access to the latest version of modules?

Well, it all depends on the intended use of the modules.

Native package management has many advantages:

  • Perl modules integrate perfectly with your system, for example. files are in the correct (system dependent) location, scripts added to PATH, etc.
  • Automatic update and security fix.
