Eclipse "autosave before build" not working?

Question

I use Eclipse Helios on CentOS 5.6 and (maybe) after (or maybe because of?) Downloading the plugin for Jetty, the IDE stopped autosaving before creation. The corresponding option in

Window --> Preferences --> Workspace --> Save automatically before build

turned on, and I tried all possible combinations of removing and resetting it, as well as restarting the application.

Is there a way to "manually" override this setting in a configuration file somewhere?

In Helios, this can be done by going to settings and settings:

Start / Debug> Start> Save the necessary dirty editors before starting
