Google maps api for android registration page

I ran into a problem with Google Maps api for android.

All tutorials and instructions will tell you about extracting this debug.keystore file and extracting its signature and paste it into the google registration page.

This is not suitable for me, I get this error

The fingerprint you entered is not valid. Please press the Back button on your browser and enter a valid certificate fingerprint.

I honestly have no idea what I'm doing wrong :( any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: here is the signature I get

51:A6:89:45:CB:20:19:DF:55:CB:AE:23:E7:31:47:42:05:47:A2:79

I suspect it's too long

You followed the instructions in the section "Obtaining an MD5 fingerprint from the Debug Certificate SDK":

http://code.google.com/android/add-ons/google-apis/mapkey.html#overview

jdk 1.7? googled stackoverflow, , 1.7: MD5 SHA1 API MAP?

http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=19035

: " JDK 1.7 keytool SHA1, MD5. -v MD5".
