One of the advantages is that when installing as a service, you can restrict privileges (access to read / write directories, network access, which means that, of course, it’s better for security) of the account that runs it (by default used LocalSystemon Windows, you can find more about it here ).
And as the administrator pointed out, you can also keep the service running without your logging in all the time.
